I’m in somewhat of a reflective mood today – maybe that’s because I’m hitting publish on this blog on my birthday or just because that’s how I am. Nonetheless, today I want to share with you some important lessons I’ve learnt to be ‘successful’ in life and business.

You might be wondering why I wrote ‘successful’ as such, and that’s because I feel it’s important to disconnect yourself from the traditional idea of success. It doesn’t have to be about money and fast cars. Instead, I want to invite you to think about what you truly want and need in life for it to be considered successful.

After I finished school I was obsessed with the traditional idea of success. I wanted to have all the things, be making all the money so I could sit back and think I made it.

Now what that actually looked like was working 2 full-time jobs for 6 years leaving me overworked, unfulfilled, depressed, anxious and just aimlessly walking through life.

I don’t know about you but that’s not my idea of success.

So I took a step back from that hustle, took a different path and began working towards making my life a success on my own terms. And now I’m happy, fulfilled, aligned and spiritually connected.

Though I want you to know that route wasn’t a simple one. I had to begin seeing my failures as stepping stones, taking ownership of my life, leaning into my spiritual practice, replacing hustle with heart and finally, seeking self-satisfaction above all else.

I want you to think about these lessons in life and business as giving you the nudge you need to start grasping life with both hands. When you really tune into these lessons I know you can begin to take radical steps towards your dreams this year.

So let’s dive in.

My top 10 lessons I’ve learnt to be successful in life and business:

1. Your happiness is your responsibility

There is no one else you can rely on for your happiness. Sure people can bring you joy in the short term, but to sustain it you have to put in the effort too. This looks like carving out space for yourself on the regular. Whether that’s to read, walk, exercise or meditate.

That time is sacred.

2. Success is not about the hustle

I don’t know about you but I remember being told as a kid that the success you have is directly related to the amount of effort you put in. That’s probably what led me to work so darn hard for so long.

However, I have come to realise that success truly lies when you work in or on the things that make your heart sing. When you can align yourself with your true purpose, success can’t help but flow your way.

3. Self-discovery is e-v-e-r-y-thing

So many people go through life completely disconnected from themselves. They don’t spend the time to connect to their larger desires, instead, they’re stuck in instant gratification mode.

Now don’t get me wrong I was there for a long time too.

But taking the time to work out who you truly are can lead you towards contentment and success.

4. We’ve all been designed to thrive in our own way

What makes each of us special is the fact that we each see, taste and digest life differently. Human design has helped me come to the realization that we have all been created to thrive – just in different ways.

5. Letting go is a process we all need to learn

When we are able to let go of what no longer serves us we’re able to make space for what does. This could be cutting ties to clients who are a bad fit or toxic relationships and habits that haven’t been serving us.

When we give the universe the space to deliver generally it does.

6. Healing takes time

Processing trauma in all its forms takes time. There is no quick fix, but the work is always worth doing.

Period.

7. The answers are always inside of you

Though it can be hard to believe it on many occasions, you hold the answers to all of your problems in life. It might just be that you’re not giving yourself the time to listen to what you’re trying to tell yourself.

8. Meditate daily

It really is that simple to be able to gain space and clarity in life.

9. The universe has your back

As truthful as it is that you have all the answers, the universe is ready to deliver all you need to see them come to fruition. All it takes is to give yourself the time and space to let it do its thing.

I’ve found that gratitude journaling has been a powerful tool to allow me to see all the ways the universe has had my back and how it continues to support me.

10. Life is precious – get living it!

We only get one stab in this physical realm of life, one body, one brilliant mind –  so quit wasting it not filling your potential.

So there you have it, my top ten lessons for success in life and business. It really isn’t rocket science. Instead, it’s more about the slow and gentle leaning in that comes with tuning into yourself and reflecting.

If you’re ready to start living a more happy and fulfilled life push the button.
