Hands up who’s written a business plan?

I know I didn’t for a while and I have met so many other business owners that have fallen at this first hurdle.

Many choose not to write their business plan, for all kinds of reasons. Maybe it’s unnecessary in this stage of their business, too hard, boring and they’re doing alright without one right now.

But this kind of avoidance where you’re not giving the attention your business needs is when the balls tend to drop and incidentally, where I see most small business owners going wrong.

But writing a business plan doesn’t have to be difficult. It can actually be pretty cool to get all your dreams on paper and work out exactly how you’re going to achieve them.

So let’s chat on the benefits of writing a business plan.

1. You’ll actually have a strategy

Rather than just treading water hoping you’ll make some money this month/quarter/year you’ll actually know what you need to do to make bank.

2. Your objectives will be clear and consistent

Once you know exactly what it is you want you’ll know that everything you do in your business will be working towards that overarching goal.

3. You’ll know what to prioritize

Rather than getting stuck on all the day-to-day tasks of running a business, you’ll know what targets and tasks you need to hit to reach your business goals.

4. Tracking your milestones will benefit your income

By knowing how far you’ve come and seeing your progression you’ll be able to access where your energy and efforts need to go in order to reach income goals.

5. You go from ‘guessing’ to knowing

This takes me back to my first point – no more treading water. You’ll actually know how much money you need to make each month, exactly where you are financially and strategically and where you plan on going next.

I hope you’re inspired now to make a start on your business plan!

Because honestly, it doesn’t have to be difficult – I know I’ve said that already but that’s how much I believe in it!

By having a clear plan on where your business has been and where it’s going I know you’ll start to see all this progress reflect in your income too.
