This time of year, everyone and their dog tells us their New Year’s resolutions, goals, or intentions. They say that you should do this too, but they don’t tell you why. And in the process of sharing their goals of breaking financial business success or hiring a team, you feel discouraged about where your life is at. You just want to build your photography portfolio or find your third client—writing lofty goals doesn’t seem like it’s going to do the trick.

The importance of intentions.

Setting intentions is really just about having a clear plan in place before getting started. It’s realigning your energy and directing your efforts to that goal you have, but also finding such detailed clarity that you feel free from doubt. Worrying or floating without really knowing what comes next hugely impacts our productivity.

Want to work smarter, not harder? Set intentions for the new year.

Give your intentions a voice.

Part 2 of this process is to say them outloud. If your intention is to find financial freedom, literally tell the world you are open and ready for your next client. You have the space to service them and you can’t wait to meet them! Speak from a place of positivity, of hopefulness and welcoming. The universe will hear you.

Relax into the journey

The thing with intentions is that you have to trust yourself—it’s partly a mindset game. Once you’ve mapped out your plan, you need to relax into the journey. Starting from scarcity or struggling against the current won’t get you anywhere anytime sooner. And when self-doubt creeps in, tell it to quiet down because that’s not part of your plan.
